It’s a very different Easter this year.
A friend of mine posted on her Instagram how sad she was that she would not have her family come visit. Another one feels lost without going to her church.
I can understand the grief that comes with the loss of something we hold dear and sacred. Something that’s always been our safe place, our comfort and joy, is now all of a sudden taken away. It brings the ache so deep that it physically hurts. And the only thing that might help is knowing that the pain is there to remind us how much we love and are loved.
This past week, I hosted an online coaching chat “How Not to Let What We Can’t Control, Control Us” where I offered a few thoughts on how to handle these extraordinary situations. (Thanks to those of you who were able to attend. I might actually do another one for any of you who weren’t able to attend this week!)
One thing that kept coming up for me as I prepared for it and reflected on it is this:
The only thing that we can control in situations we can’t control (which is really most of our lives – this pandemic just amplifies that) is whether we respond to it with despair or hope. We can move into a fear of the uncertain or we can trust that Love is already there in every moment – now and forever.
And I know (because many of you have been sharing with me) that you know this. 🙂
So…since our Easter celebrations this year won’t be as usual, I’d like to offer you an ‘unconventional’ reflection to do – one that so poignantly brings the message of renewal, hope and love.
It will take 3 minutes and 47 seconds of your life. And if you choose to take me up on this offer, find 4 minutes in which you can be completely still, with no distractions.
Then click on this link, turn the sound up and breathe through this song.
Be still.
Let your thoughts calm down as you follow the words and images on the screen.
And listen.
Without expectations; without judgment. Just listen. That’s it…
Have a joy, peace and hope filled Easter!

Finding Balance: A Lesson from My Joy Sign
I have a sign that my kids made for me as a Christmas present many years ago. It's made of a simple wooden board with the word 'Joy' spelled out in bright rope lights. Over the years, it has become my favorite decoration, one that gets the best spot in the house -...
