I went to Los Angeles recently, where I had a concert and took my son Evan to tour a couple of colleges. I absolutely love this chance to have some one on one time with my sons. We get to talk a lot – and we have some seriously deep conversations. Evan is also a musician, so we discuss music and composing and putting shows together. He is my go to when I am in doubt about a song or even a whole show.

Which brings me to this…

I’m currently preparing (along with the rest of the band and team) for our big upcoming tour, “Waking Up In America”. We’re touring from October and well into 2020!

It’s a huge show and we’re all really, really excited about it!

And of course, there’s a ton of work going into producing something like this.

Sometimes, as I work to pull together a performance, I think about how the process is similar to so many things in our lives.

I find there are three ‘ingredients’ for a successful show (which may be useful in other areas of life).

First, I envision exactly what I want it to look like and feel like – not just for me but, more importantly, for my audience. This clarity around how it will look and feel becomes the guiding force.

When we apply this to anything else in our lives, magic can happen 🙂 If you have a clear vision of what you want any area of your life to look like, you’ll be able to work towards it with more ease.

Second, there is the commitment and dedication needed to solidify all the details, gathering a team, practicing etc. It’s pieced together brick by brick.

In life, if we don’t make a commitment to something we want to see in our reality, it won’t simply happen for us. It can feel like a mess or like it’s impossible, but if we take it one step at a time and give it our all, we can trust that, in time, it’ll all come together.

And finally, it requires me to surrender control! At the end of the day, there’s an entire team behind the production and so many things beyond any of our control (things we need to be flexible in receiving and reacting to). Most often, the best moments of a show (or life) turn out to be the ones that are unplanned and unexpected 😉

To me, putting a show, or a cruise/ retreat, or a whole tour is easy. It’s establishing the right balance between work, family obligations and rest that’s hard.
