As I\u2019m working on my memoir, I\u2019m reminded how powerful this combination is – especially when we find ourselves in situations that are full of uncertainties, stress, fear, unrest\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Last weekend, Luna and I went on a beautiful hike.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Nature is always so calming,\u00a0grounding and comforting to me. About 45 minutes into our walk, we found a bench overlooking a small meadow overgrown with wildflowers and tall grass. I sat there wanting to soak in the peacefulness of it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I imagined my version of peaceful – no activity, no worry, no agenda, no planning, nothing.\u00a0Just sitting there resting in life in complete stillness.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n But no matter where I placed my gaze, there was a constant and very busy<\/strong> activity – with a million bugs flying, buzzing, sucking on flowers, chasing each other, with cicadas competing in loudness, and birds flying from one tree canopy to another.<\/span><\/p>\n Luna was so excited about so many new things to smell and check out, there was no way she would lay down and rest. All of it was too much, and at the same time it was perfectly peaceful. There was no resistance to the flow of life – everything there was surrendered<\/em> to it<\/strong>. (Well, maybe not Luna because she was on a leash, LOL)<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n I sat down and took a deep breath and stilled my mind. At least my version of still \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p>\n I saw that my brain was like the meadow in front of it. And the thoughts (memories, questions, worry, inner chatter that\u2019s processing information from the outside experiences) like bugs and birds and life that are impossible to stop.<\/span><\/p>\n The moment I stopped resisting and gave up my version of ‘perfect sacred stillness’, I found myself immersed in it\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n And I enjoyed it immensely.<\/span><\/p>\n I came home from our hike refreshed, relaxed, energized, hopeful and deeply fulfilled. I love Italian songs because they are so expressive\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n I heard this song on an album from a live concert, and was blown away by the fact that the whole audience (of thousands of people) were singing along. This song is a piece of poetry, and pretty long\u2026\u00a0how did they all remember the words?<\/em>\u00a0(I miss singing along with thousands of people!)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The song talks about life’s ordinary and magical\u00a0details that make up a beautiful and rich life. It was Sunday and I was driving to the Church. \ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u201cI Happened To Be Standing\u201d by Mary Oliver<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n I don\u2019t know where prayers go,<\/span> [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”0|0px|60px|0px|false|false” _builder_version=”3.0.98″ saved_tabs=”all”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″][et_pb_text admin_label=”COACHING” _builder_version=”3.19.13″ text_text_color=”#ffffff” text_font_size=”30px” text_orientation=”center” background_layout=”dark” link_option_url_new_window=”on”]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.13″ text_font_size=”18px” link_option_url_new_window=”on”]<\/p>\n When I first began my spiritual journey, a Franciscan priest told me I\u2019d hear God\u2019s whisper in the silence of my heart. I know I can walk through the world,<\/span>
along the shore or under the trees,<\/span>
with my mind filled with things<\/span>
of little importance, in full<\/span>
self-attendance.\u00a0 A condition I can\u2019t really<\/span>
call being alive.<\/span>
Is a prayer a gift, or a petition,<\/span>
or does it matter?<\/span>
The sunflowers blaze, maybe that\u2019s their way.<\/span>
Maybe the cats are sound asleep.\u00a0 Maybe not.
<\/span>While I was thinking this I happened to be standing<\/span>
just outside my door, with my notebook open,<\/span>
which is the way I begin every morning.<\/span>
Then a wren in the privet began to sing.<\/span>
He was positively drenched in enthusiasm,<\/span>
I don\u2019t know why.\u00a0 And yet, why not.<\/span>
I wouldn\u2019t persuade you from whatever you believe<\/span>
or whatever you don\u2019t.\u00a0 That\u2019s your business.<\/span>
But I thought, of the wren\u2019s singing, what could this be<\/span>
if it isn\u2019t a prayer?<\/span>
So I just listened, my pen in the air.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
