I hope Valentine\u2019s Day brought you thoughts of love and many gifts that always come with Love (which sometimes happens even from just reflecting on it).<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have a story to share today that I\u2019m sure will warm your heart.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

This past week I had three wonderful concerts – in Redondo Beach, CA and Bakersfield, CA.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The first two were in gorgeous auditoriums, filled with excited audiences. The third one was what we call a \u2018community outreach\u2019 show. Usually, the concert associations that bring us to their area also sponsor\u00a0an extra performance for schools<\/b>. This is an opportunity for the students to see a professional, live performance.\u00a0We LOVE doing these<\/b>.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

But on this day, the schools in Bakersfield were closed and we couldn\u2019t stay an extra day. So instead for the students, we performed\u00a0at a retirement community<\/b>.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sanya, Brian and I decided to dress up for the occasion and wear our sparkly gowns (and Brian his sequence jacket), even though it was an informal daytime performance. The residents gathered in the beautiful lobby around a grand piano, anticipating our show.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

A few moments before showtime, I realized\u00a0I couldn\u2019t find my heels<\/b>. I looked everywhere – in all the bags and all the compartments of our rental car. I\u2019ve been on the road long enough to have packing down to a science, so this was really weird.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The night before I repacked after our show and now I couldn\u2019t remember what exactly I did with my shoes.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

I decided I must have been tired and left them at the theatre. So, I put on my sparkly dress and stayed in\u00a0my \u2018cowboy\u2019 boots<\/b>. They are a stylish Italian-made leather ankle boots with a nice heel, but they are worn out (like a pair of your favorite cowboy boots should be), and they certainly don\u2019t go with a sparkly gown (as much as it was an \u2018intentional\u2019 look I was going for).<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

I felt odd the entire time\u00a0– moving carefully so the boots wouldn\u2019t peek under my long dress as I tried to move elegantly across the floor.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

When I sang\u00a0Over the Rainbow<\/i>\u00a0I got really emotional.<\/b><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Maybe it was because I stood still the entire song (when we stand still, there is an extra emotional space that opens up).<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

I introduced it as my favorite song of hope, explaining that\u00a0\u201cwhatever it is you might still be longing for – a healing, a few moments of tenderness, a sense of being loved – is\u00a0always within your reach<\/b>.\u00a0We just have to open our hearts and accept it<\/b>\u00a0(and be willing to bend a little so we don\u2019t miss it if it comes in a form slightly different from our vision).\u201d<\/i><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

After the song ended, I pulled up my dress up a little bit, and revealed my footwear.\u00a0\u201cAnd I\u2019m not even wearing my red ruby slippers. Even in these old boots,\u00a0I know I have everything I need – love included.<\/u>\u00a0I just had to be willing to break a little and let love in,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0I said with a smile.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

When I paused to think, I realized the old boots felt really comforting – as if they were reminding me that\u00a0Love doesn\u2019t have to look any specific way.<\/b><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Later that evening when we gathered all of our stuff to repack for the flight home, I opened a little bag with our CDs.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The shoes were sitting right there on top! The entire time I was dancing in my boots, the little bag was behind me, right under the piano.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

I never thought to look there! I thought there was absolutely no reason to look in the CD bag for my shoes!\u00a0If only they squeaked,<\/i>\u00a0I joked,\u00a0to let me know they were there!<\/i><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now, take a second and consider…<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Are there places (or people) in your life where you aren\u2019t thinking to look for something you’re missing?<\/b><\/h4>\n

Are you missing Love because you \u2018packed\u2019 it away after a particularly stressful time, or a heartbreak, and now you can\u2019t access it anymore? Or are you afraid to love again after you have lost someone without whom you couldn\u2019t imagine your life?<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Are there other ways you can tap into a feeling you’ve been craving?<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

For me, I am letting love in – through the same hole that losing my husband left in my heart.<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

And whether you are happily married, or happily single, or widowed or divorced,\u00a0keep Love as your superpower \ud83d\ude42<\/b><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here is a song for you<\/a>. It\u2019s one of gentlest and most tender love songs out there: Johnny Cash\u2019s\u00a0\u201cRose of My Heart.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0It\u2019s definitely a song one would sing wearing her old \u2018cowboy\u2019 boots\u2026 letting Love show up for her and not resisting it.<\/h4>\n
